The Sanctuary has a long history of supporting teachers in the initial stages of their teaching career, and understands the importance of growing and developing young talent. The Sanctuary has close links with the University of Huddersfield, and have developed and run Newly Qualified Teacher Training in Oldham for several years.

St. Chads C. E. Primary School is the Lead School for School Direct as part of the ITT Alliance with the University of Huddersfield. We offer School Direct places for primary trainee teachers, offering a truly unique programme .

The Teaching School Alliance consists of a number of good and outstanding schools from a range of differing contexts within Oldham, Tameside and Rochdale. St. Chads is also a Cohort 1 Teaching School; one of the first schools in the country to receive this designation, and a Designated OLEVI Centre (DOC).

Our truly collaborative programme aims to offer the best possible experience for our trainees and support them in becoming the aspirant school leaders of the future.

Key Aspects of Our Provision

Candidates will gain the opportunity to gain a Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and the value of 60 Masters level credits. They will receive a personal mentor, as well as cross-phase mentoring, access to specialist and enrichment days, taught elements delivered by experts at University of Huddersfield, and facilitated learning in a National Teaching School.
